Chaining a real perimeter into a real wall-area calculation

A 5m × 4m room has a real perimeter of 18m, from the room area calculator — the total distance around all four walls combined. Feeding that real 18m as the "wall length" into the wall area calculator, with a 3m ceiling height and 4.5 m² of combined doors and windows across the whole room, gives a gross area of 54 m² and a net area of 49.5 m² — the total paintable wall surface for the entire room in one calculation.

Why perimeter works as a stand-in for total wall length

The wall area formula (length × height) doesn't care whether that "length" comes from one physical wall or is the combined length of four walls laid end to end — multiplying the room's full perimeter by the ceiling height gives exactly the combined area all four walls would have if calculated individually and added together.

Why this shortcut saves real work

Calculating each of a room's four walls separately (two pairs of matching walls, each needing its own openings subtracted) works, but takes four calculations.
