Monthly savings with EV

Petrol monthly fuel cost₹10,000
EV monthly charging cost₹1,800
Annual savings with EV₹98,400

AI explanation

Formula

Petrol cost = (distance ÷ km per liter) × price per liter; EV cost = (distance ÷ 100) × kWh per 100km × electricity rate

Worked example

1,500 km/month, ₹100/l petrol at 15 km/l vs EV at 15 kWh/100km, ₹8/kWh

Worked example: 1,500 km/month, ₹100/l petrol at 15 km/l vs EV at 15 kWh/100km, ₹8/kWh

Assumptions

  • Compares only running (fuel/electricity) cost — excludes purchase price difference, EV charging infrastructure cost, maintenance cost differences, and any depreciation difference.
  • A positive savings figure means the EV is cheaper to run per month at your entered driving distance and rates.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include the higher upfront cost of an EV?

No — this compares only ongoing running (fuel vs. electricity) cost. EVs are often more expensive to purchase upfront, so factor in that difference separately when deciding whether the running-cost savings pay it back over your expected ownership period.

Should I use my home charging rate or a public charging rate?

Use whichever you'll actually rely on most — home charging is typically much cheaper per kWh than public fast charging, so mixing in significant public charging will reduce your real-world savings.

What about maintenance cost differences?

EVs generally have lower maintenance costs (no oil changes, fewer moving parts) — this calculator doesn't quantify that difference, so actual total savings with an EV are often higher than the fuel-cost-only figure shown here.
