Assumptions and limitations

This calculator assumes

  • HRA rates follow the 7th CPC city-class table, revised upward when DA crosses 25% and 50% — at the default 60% DA, rates are 30%/20%/10% for X/Y/Z cities.
  • Excludes other allowances (e.g. NPS employer contribution, special duty/risk allowances) that vary by post and location.
  • Does not compute deductions (NPS/EPF employee contribution, income tax, professional tax) — this is a gross salary estimate.

What it does not account for

  • The default DA rate is the rate effective from 1 January 2026. The July 2026 revision is announced later in the year and applies retrospectively; enter the new rate once it is notified.
  • Transport allowance is used exactly as entered; any allowance paid on top of it is not added.

Frequently asked questions

How is DA calculated for central government employees?

DA = Basic Pay × current DA rate (as a percentage), revised twice a year by the Ministry of Finance based on the All-India Consumer Price Index.

Why does the HRA rate depend on the DA rate?

Per 7th CPC rules, HRA rates are revised upward by 3 percentage points each time DA crosses 25% and again at 50% — starting from 24%/16%/8% (X/Y/Z) and rising to 30%/20%/10% once DA reaches 50% or more.

What allowances are not included in this estimate?

This calculator covers only Basic Pay, DA, HRA, and Transport Allowance. It excludes post-specific allowances (e.g. special duty, risk, or hardship allowances) and all deductions.
